One of our Sixth Form students, Oliver, is currently fundraising to volunteer on a pilgrimage to Lourdes with the charity HCPT (The Hosanna House and Children’s Pilgrimage Trust).

Every Easter, around 1,000 disabled and disadvantaged children and young people experience a life-changing pilgrimage holiday in Lourdes, in the south of France. They are supported by a dedicated team of HCPT volunteer helpers, including young people like Oliver, as well as nurses and priests.

Oliver was inspired to get involved by his brother, who has also volunteered as an HCPT helper. Now, he’s following in those footsteps, not just to give back, but because of how deeply meaningful the experience has become for him.

One of Oliver’s most cherished moments is the torchlight procession “This is where all the groups join together with candlelight leading the way, and of course, lots of singing and laughter. It gives me chills to witness it.”

He added “No other experience could ever beat going to Lourdes. For me, the atmosphere, the sense of belonging, and getting to witness the joy of the community are just unbeatable.”

We’re inspired by Oliver’s compassion and commitment. He is currently seeking sponsorship to support his volunteer mission, and he has several fundraising activities planned in the coming weeks and months, including a festive Christmas Quiz Night! If you’d like to support his journey, stay tuned for more details on how you can get involved. Every bit of help brings him closer to making a real difference in Lourdes.
