Our school is joining others nationally to take part in Safer Internet Day 2026, the largest global online safety campaign.

On Monday 9th February, all students will be off timetable during lessons 4 and 5 taking part in a Deep Learning Afternoon.  We will be linking the activities to the theme for this year ‘Smart tech, safe choices – Exploring the safe and responsible use of AI,’and will be focusing on the skills to use AI technology in a safe way, as well as highlighting available support.

We are also delighted to welcome Simon Lewis, Online Safety Consultant from South West Grid for Learning who will be speaking with our students throughout the day. Prior to Simon’s appointment as an Online Safety Consultant he worked as a teacher, with over 20 years experience and is a dad, bringing both of these experiences to the sessions that he will be delivering to all students throughout the day, where he will be delivering age-appropriate online safety presentations.

And as part of this, we are hosting a FREE parent and carer session also run by Simon Lewis:
Monday 9th February 2026 5.00pm – 6.00 pm in the Main Hall.
All parents and carers of students years 7 – 13 are welcome to attend
Book your place here.

The session will provide information on the changing landscape of online safety, explore misinformation, sextortion, harmful sexual behaviours, gaming, AI, social media advice, how to set parental controls and lots more.

A key part of protecting children and young people from online harms is through preventative education. By talking about this in school and at home, we can all work towards keeping children safe when they are online. Celebrating Safer Internet Day is a great opportunity for you to re-emphasise the online safety messages we deliver throughout the year.

If you have any concerns or questions about keeping your child safe online, please do get in touch with your child’s form tutor or Sharon Walker, our Designated Safeguarding Person/Lead.
