A Level- AQA English Language and Literature (Combined)
If you love writing, reading, and all things literature and linguistics- then this course is for you.
Our combined English course provides you
with a broad base of literary and linguistic study alongside a rich historical exploration of literature.
It offers high levels of academic rigour that prepares you for further academic study through an Undergraduate Degree, a Masters and more! English also prepares you for any vocation that calls for reading or writing skills from journalism to law.
Over the course you will study how the world
is created in literary and non-literary texts. You will study classics of English literature, alongside contemporary accounts of places, people and travel.
Selected works you may cover according to your teacher’s specialism:
• Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein
• Carol Ann Duffy’s Poetry Anthology
• Tennessee Williams’ A Streetcar Named Desire
• Jon Krakauer’s Into The Wild.
ASSESSMENT:
Paper 1 (40%) – Telling Stories Section A – Remembered Places Section B – Imagined Worlds Section C – Poetic Voices
Paper 2 (40%) – Exploring Conflict Section A – Writing about Society Section B – Dramatic Encounters
Non-Exam Assessment (20%) – Making Connections
You will complete a comparative study that explores thematic links across fiction and non- fiction.
