BTEC – Pearson Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Applied Science
The course is more coursework based than traditional A Levels, so if exams are not your thing – but science is – this is the course for you!
This course will give you the science skills that employers in industry are looking for whilst giving you the opportunity to gain A Level equivalents, accepted by Universities. Science is the key to unlocking a variety of rich and varied career pathways.
What will I study?
Unit 1 – Principles and Applications of Science (Part 1)
This unit encompasses all three sciences and teaches you the Level 3 foundations required for the rest of the course.
Unit 2 – Practical Scientific Procedures and Techniques (Part 2)
This course teaches you to become proficient in techniques you would use in an industrial chemistry laboratory.
Unit 3 – Science Investigation Skills • Enzymes in action
• Diffusion of molecules
• Electrical circuits
• Plants & their environment
• Energy content of fuels
Unit 4 – Optional
The fourth Unit is optional. You will have the opportunity to discuss with your tutor which option would suit you best before making your decision.
ASSESSMENT:
Unit 1, 3 and 5 are externally set and examined/assessed.
Unit 2, 4, 6 and the option units are internally set and assessed.
We want you to take away with you a good grade, as the vast majority of our students do, but that’s not all!
We want you to gain knowledge that will make your life more rewarding and fulfilling and skills that will help you cope and succeed in the 21st Century. Qualities like determination, confidence, organization and self-reliance that will make you a more successful person.
